Josep Maria Martorell, Associate Director of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, served as director general for Research for the Government of Catalonia from 2011 to 2016. He is currently an associate professor at the UPC Image Processing and Multimedia Technology Center and an advisor to several technology companies. He graduated in Physics at the University of Barcelona and in General Management at IESE and he also has a PhD in Computer Engineering from the University Ramon Llull.
Eduard Inglés is a branding specialist based in Barcelona. He studied graphic design at Eina, Escola Universitaria de Disseny i Art where he specialized in Branding and Typeface design. Since 2010 he worked on branding global projects with clients such as La Caixa, ExpoHoteles&Resorts, The Style Outlets, Carolina Herrera, La Generalitat and Baku Circuit City. Eduard is developing his skills in Design Management and Branding at SEAT. He also teaches at ELISAVA Design University where he leads a graduate Branding programme.
Reto Schneller is a swiss product designer based in Barcelona. He studied mechanical engneering in Switzerland and industrial design at Umeå Institute of Design, Sweden. «Functional minimalism» does probably best describe his style. His work experience includes brands like Mammut, Garaventa, Scott, Bosch, Leggero, Betty Bossi or Lékué.
Marco Paccagnella is an Italian designer based in Barcelona. He studied industrial and visual design at IUAV University of Venice where he developed a strong dedication in creating meaningful brand experiences. He worked on global digital projects with clients such as Ford motor, Repsol, Lufthansa, NovoNordisk, OXO, Vogue and Samsung. He joined as a visual designer different design consultancy agencies including Fjord and SmartDesign before founding WAA, a studio dedicated to design products for a healthy lifestyle.
Atia Cortés is computer science engineer and master in Artificial Intelligence by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. She is finishing her PhD and is an associate teacher in computer interfaces both at UPC. During the last 10 years she has participated in several national and EU funded research projects related with assistive technologies, intelligent services for healthcare, social networks and robotics.
Inma Valle worked as Independent Advisor and Investor in the Biotechnology sector. She was Investment Manager at Caixa Capital Risc, venture arm of La Caixa, were she lead more than 10 investments in the Life Sciences Sector and sat as Board Member at 4 biotechnology companies. Previously, she spent 4 years working as a researcher at the Diabetes Center at UCSF, where she focused on central regulation of metabolic disorders (obesity, type 2 diabetes, etc). She holds a PhD in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from University Autónoma of Madrid, and a Master in Biotechnology Management with a focus on healthcare from IE Business School.
Jose Antonio is the Chief Investment Officer at Caixa Capital Risc. He specializes in investment in drug development and medical devices. He currently serves on the Board of Directors at Medlumics, Stat Diagnostica, Laboratoris Sanifit, Genmedica and nLife Therapeutics. He is responsible for the analysis, negotiation and structuring of processes in life science companies. Jose A. has more than 10 years of experience in the analysis of investment opportunities and specializes in the creation and early health sector companies. His experience began in the Department of Business Development at Genzyme Corporation, a company specializing in the development and sale of drugs for orphan diseases. He later joined the Technology Portfolio team at Genoma España, a public sector foundation that promotes technology development, knowledge transfer and innovation in the biotechnology sector. Jose Antonio holds a degree in Biology (Genetics) and a Masters in Corporate Finance from the U. Complutense, Madrid (UCM), MBA and PDD from IESE.
Salvador Llas is a product development engineer. He studied Industrial and Materials Engineering. For the last 10 years he has been working at Neos Surgery as the Head of Product Development, bringing from concept to market implantable medical devices. He is expert on advanced manufacturing technologies and smart materials such shape memory alloys and reinforced materials. During this time, Neos Surgery has received many international awards on Innovation and Design. He is co-inventor of several patents on the medical field. Additionally, he is involved on the worldwide product approval (CE mark, FDA and others) and on regional, national and EU funded projects related with medical devices.
Guillermo Talavera is a physicist (1999), electronic engineer (2001), PhD in Computer Science (2009) and finished a MBA in 2017. After his PhD, he has been several years working in the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona as teacher, researcher and head of the Wireless Ultra Low Power Area of a research group in the Microelectronics department. From January 2014, he is a Project Manager at IBEC research center. From 2016 he is one of the co-founders of IoT Partners S.L., a hardware and software consultancy in the field of Internet of Things.

Once he finished his studies in Molecular Biology in the United Kingdom, Robert decided to change his field and finished his thesis about Computational Chemistry and Molecular Modelling at the University of Barcelona. He was later in charge of the Computational Chemistry and Biology department in one of the reference pharmaceutical companies in Spain, where he gathered more than 12 years of experience in the development of new drugs. From 2011 to 2016 he worked at ZBM Patents and Trademarks where he elaborated patentability and freedom of operation reports, apart from drafting and prosecueing patents in the life sciences field. He is now Chief Scientific Officer of Nostrum Biodiscovery, the first joint spin-off of IRB and BSC.

Raquel Riera is Director of Moebio at Biocat (www.biocat.cat), the organization that coordinates and promotes the biotechnology, biomedicine and medical technology sector in Catalonia, from February 2006. She holds a Master in Business Administration for ESADE, as well as the 5-year combined undergraduate program. She has experience in developing projects in the healthcare sector for several types of clients, including insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies and healthcare providers, among others. After more than 5 years doing specialized consultancy in life sciences in Antares Consulting and EY, she joined Biocat to manage projects related to Innovation and promotion of entrepreneurship in medical devices.
Josep Amat, born in 1940, is currently an emeritus Industrial Engineer in the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC). He graduated as an Industrial Engineer in 1976 and later became Doctor in the same field in 1977. Upon completion of his studies he started to collaborate as a student in the Automatics Laboratory and at the same started to give lessons of electronics in the Industrial Engineer School of Barcelona. In 1987, Josep Amat became Professor of Technology and Computers at UPC, and in 2010 was commemorated as an emeritus Professor after his retirement. Between 1991 and 2010 Josep was invited as a partner Professor at the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory of the MIT (Massachusetts, USA). During these last years, he focused his research on two areas: Marine Robotics and Surgical Robotics, working in the Industrial Robotics Institute (IRI) and Biomedical Engineering Robotic Center (CREB). He also worked as a Head of Research for the Research Group of Intelligent Robotics (GRINS) in UPC. Josep Amat is a member of the Catalan Studies Institute since 1990 and also from the Science and Arts Royal Academy of Barcelona since 2000.
Clara Campàs-Moya holds a PhD in Pharmacy by the Universitat de Barcelona. She recently joined Kern Pharma SL as Strategy & Development Director were she coordinates the following departments: R&D, innovation, business development and regulatory affairs. Formerly, she worked at Advancell, SA as Managing Director and Drug development Director, as well as a Researcher at Hospital del Mar. She is the co-author of the patent Acadesine, the first drug originated in a Spanish public University that successfully reached clinical trials. She is member of the scientific committee of the venture capital fund HealthEquity, VicePresident of CataloniaBIO and member of the board of trustees of Biocat, as well as member of the scientific committee of the MIHealth Forum.

Dan E. Azagury, MD, graduated from medical school in Geneva in 2001 and then completed surgical residency at the Geneva University Hospital. His focus during training was laparoscopy and bariatric surgery, as well as questioning current perioperative management habits such as postoperative nutrition. During this time, he kept a passion for innovation and design, winning second place in a BBraun suture design competition in Switzerland. After completing surgical training and board certification Dan E. Azagury decided to pursue this innovation route further and went to Boston for a research fellowship at the Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School. This fellowship mostly focused on novel endoscopic techniques and device development. Amongst other projects, he participated in the development and experimentation of magnetic anastomoses in the gastrointestinal tract, a gastrointestinal bleeding sensor and endovascular bleeding therapies. He also designed a novel surgical device during that time. He extended his Boston experience with a clinical fellowship in bariatric and minimally invasive surgery at the same institution, the following year. He then decided to further explore his passion for innovation and became a fellow at the Biodesign Fellowship in innovation at Stanford University. This team based fellowship with 3 engineers resulted in two main inventions and projects in the fields of urology and intensive care and the creation of two startup companies. Dan extended his stay at Stanford and focus on the intensive care project with Kate Garrett, his co-fellow during the fellowship. Kate is now CEO of their company, Ciel medical. Dan is now back on faculty in Geneva, in charge of Bariatric surgery at Geneva’s University Hospital and working on innovation projects and programs in collaboration with multiple institutions.
Yossi Bahagon is an entrepreneur with 10 years of leadership-experience in Bio-Medical Informatics and Health Information Sciences. He is the founder and CEO of Health Insight, which is one of the sole companies worldwide which developed a specialty expertise in strategy to realization of e-health, mobile-Health & Tele-Care solutions. In 2008 he founded Clalit Health Services (CHS) Digital Health Division. CHS is the largest health maintenance organization in Israel and the second largest coordinated care organization worldwide with more than 4.2 million members, 10,000+ physicians, 1300+ ambulatory clinics, 14 hospitals and 650 pharmacies. CHS Digital Health division leads next generation, digital-based, patient-centered-care services, focusing on deepening patient involvement in managing health through e-health and mobile health interactive tools. CHS Digital Health activity is considered one of the largest Digital Health operations worldwide and has won several national and international excellence prizes. More than 1.65 million patients use CHS Digital Health monthly, with over 2.6 million interactions. Prior to Dr. Bahagon's position at CHS he served as the Medical Director of the Israeli Clinical Information Center, and as a consultant to CEO positions in the venture capital, Bio-Medical and Pharmaceutical industries. Yossi Bahagon also serves as a lecturer in the fields of Evidence-Based Medicine, Biomedical Informatics and Digital Health at the Hebrew University Hadassah and the Ben-Gurion Medical Schools.
Meike Bomhof is the Senior Associate in Europe at HullAssociates Ltd., a Global Market Access and Reimbursement Consultancy. Since its inception in 2007 she has assisted with the growth of the company in Europe to its present size and provided market access and reimbursement strategy & implementation support related to a wide variety of innovative medical devices mostly in Spain, Italy and The Netherlands. Her main objective is to identify custom made and integrated approaches to market access for a wide range of medical technologies. Prior to her role in HullAssociates she accumulated 14 years of industry experience in the areas of business development, reimbursement, European marketing and finance in Edwards Lifesciences and Baxter where she was responsible amongst other for the evaluation of the viability of commercialization of new products and technologies She started her career in the area of business analysis for European product divisions and finance and controlling for Iberia. Maike Bomhof holds a Postgraduate Diploma Business Administration, International Marketing from University College Dublin and an International Postgraduate Diploma Health Economics from Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona.
Manel del Castillo, medical specialist in family and community medicine, is Managing Director at Hospital Sant Joan de Déu and the General Secretary of the Consortium for Health and Social Employers Association. He previously served on the Board and Executive Committee at Althaia, was Deputy Director at CHC Consulting and CEO at Hospital Municipal de Badalona, all in Catalonia, Spain.
Joan Cortés is a trainer and speaker on innovation, strategy, change and strategic thinking. As partner and Director at LTC, an innovation consultancy based in Barcelona, he has led strategy and innovation projects for corporate clients in many sectors, from utilities, to insurance, to automotive, to universities, to government. He has also worked for a number of SME, always committed to achieving a better strategic understanding and innovation approach. He has created several entrepreneurial projects with mixed success.

Antoni Flores is an expert in competitiveness, innovation and management of new business models; a frequent speaker in business forums and a writer on these topics for general and specialized media. He has advised on strategy, competitiveness and business model design companies such as Hewlett Packard, Inditex, Casals, Steelcase, Bosch Siemens, BBVA, Caja Madrid, Cortefiel, Indra, Danone, Coca Cola. Diana has a degree in Psychology from the University of Barcelona, Post-graduate studies in Human Resources and Industrial Relations from the University Pompeu Fabra and studies with The Coaches Training Institute (CTI). Diana has had a successful career implementing and managing HR processes and also has built an impressive experience as a trainer, facilitator and coach. Luis Soenksen is an entrepreneur, professor and researcher focused on incubating appropriate medical technologies for the global market. Currently he is Medtech Entrepreneur and Research Fellow at Massachusetts institute of Technology. Soenksen has extensive experience in the areas of medical product design, bioinstrumentation, medical imaging, biological control and medical innovation. He specializes in the design of ultra low-tech devices with high public health impact, high-end embedded systems for medical applications, software development and need-driven solutions. His previous work has been translated into projects for personal navigation systems in blind patients, imaging post-processing tools for cardiac function, pulmonary embolism diagnosis, catheter design with biofilm control, POC diagnostics, breast cancer screening and wound healing. Luis Soenksen holds a BSc in Biomedical Engineering from the Monterrey Institute of Technology in Mexico City as well as an MSE in Bioengineering Innovation & Design from Johns Hopkins University.
Robert Harju-Jeanty is a healthcare industry expert, an international sales accelerator, and a business growth coach. He has over 25 years of international experience in medical device and pharmaceutical industries from global to start-up companies. He is mentor for the Clinical Innovation Fellowships Program at the Center for Technology in Medicine and Health, a collaborative project between Karolinska Institutet, Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm County Council to help develop the Stockholm region as a world-class medical technology hub. He represents the Helsinki University Funds as board director in medical portfolio companies. Additionally, he is an advisor and coach in business, communication and venture capital collaborating with various industries, media and universities, mainly in the Nordic countries. He has been lecturer at d·Health Barcelona from the start.
Chia Hwu founded Qubop in 2002 as a mobile production and consulting company. Qubop provides mobile product design, platform consulting, applications and games for the iOS, Android, Windows Phone and BlackBerry platforms. Chia Hwu's background spans product design, marketing, and both hard sciences and the visual arts, and includes seven Silicon Valley startups. Before Qubop, she was Director of Marketing and Developer Outreach at Corona Labs, where she was responsible for leading brand strategy, public relations and product marketing for their mobile tools. Chia previously worked at the Google-funded 23andMe, where she built the company's user communities, created a new product line and social campaign that increased sales by 10x, and managed some of the earliest efforts in marketing genetics to consumers. At Loyalty Lab, Chia sold loyalty programs to major retailers like Smith & Hawken, RedEnvelope and Nine West. Chia has worked in biotech as a medicinal chemist, completed all coursework for a PhD in Chemistry and Biochemistry, received her MS from University of California San Diego, and earned her bachelor's degree from Williams College. She is a coauthor of Teach Yourself the Twitter API in 24 Hours and an expert at the integration of game mechanics and social features into apps.

Domingo Jaumandreu is a specialist dedicated to the transfer of professional knowledge and experience on the commercialization of innovative market propositions. He is also a corporate trainer and a visiting professor at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and also with the Marketing & Finanzas Business School of Bilbao. Domingo graduated in Aeronautics Engineering at the Polithechnical University of Madrid and subsequently joined the Robert Bosch Group where he contributed in Advanced Materials Engineering, Manufacturing, Logistics and Business to Business middle management positions. By the end of 1982 he joined Sony in Spain serving in Consumer Products Sales, Marketing and Corporate Managing Director responsibilities. After ten years in European assignments, by June 2009 he retired as Senior Vicepresident in charge of Home Digital and Televison Business Group in Sony Electronics Europe, Sony UK Ltd.
Simon Kavanagh is currently the international manager of KaosPilots. His work consists of promoting and creating collaborations between the school and international organizations and co-creating new solutions to learning and creating bridges between the Design and Business worlds. Previously he worked as a Creative Director at Interact Irish Multimedia firm. During these years he designed, programmed or managed approximately 600 multimedia titles in the business, educational, IT, online-Gaming, leisure and banking sectors for such clients as Oracle, Microsoft, Chase, Reuters, Esat and Masterfoods and set up divisions in NYC and Paris. He then became a consultant in R&D for Windmill Lane Studios in the areas of Interactive Television, Content Management systems and online gaming before moving to Paris to further his studies in digital media and art. He re-embarked on the educational path in Shanghai where he lectured a British degree in new media, design and culture for three years, until 2006, when he joined Kaospilots. Simon holds a B.A in Art and Design Education.
Marc Lite is, since 2006, FIRMA branding & innovation agency’s Co-founder and Strategy Director. Prior to launch his own company, in 2001, he was strategic marketing assistant at Hewlett-Packard. One year later, he joined Summa Communication, the leading Spanish branding agency at the time, as Brand Strategy Director. He has worked for clients such as La Caixa, ESADE Business School and Santander. Marc Lite is a professor at ELISAVA Design University where he leads some postgraduate programmes. He also teaches Brand Management at ESADE Business School. Together with Anton Pinyol, he created the workshops The Big Idea and Creativity Immersion, that are among the most current disruptive courses at ESADE. From 2003 to 2006, he was the chief editor of All Brand, a Spanish branding publication. Marc Lite holds a MBA from ESADE. He did his graduating thesis at the Indian Institute of Management in Lucknow.
In over 20 years of professional experience Mario López de Ávila has advised more than 100 organizations, both public and private, large multinational companies and SMEs from 30 different business sectors. In 2002 he launched Nodos, a company specialized in innovation, growth and large-scale organizational change. He advices to organizations how to apply creativity and the ability to integrate join efforts and resources to overcome complex situations and wicked problems that affect the overall performance. In his role as entrepreneur, Mario López de Ávila has been involved in the creation of several technology-based startups as investor and promoter. He combines his work as a consultant and entrepreneur with teaching. He is associate professor at the IE Business School in the area of Operations and Quantitative Methods. At first he teached Project Management and later Creativity and Innovation, complex problem solving and entrepreneurship. He was a pioneer in Spain in translating the principles and methodologies of Lean Startups to large multinational corporate environment. He currently heads 'Owners and Entrepreneurs Management Program' the IE Business School. Renowned lecturer at various forums, Mario López de Ávila has won several awards for excellence in teaching, the latest in 2012, the Award for Innovation in Executive Education at the IE Business School. Since 2004 he owns the blog Nodos, a reference in the field in the Spanish language.
David Maltz is a Principal at Intervalent, and independent consultancy focused on product development and innovation strategy for consumer-facing medical devices. David has worked in product design & development for over 20 years, with the last 14 of those focused exclusively on medical products. This includes extensive inhaled drug-delivery experience with Nektar Therapeutics and Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation, where he oversaw the design, development and manufacturing of several novel pulmonary drug delivery systems. Before Nektar, David held leadership positions at Game Ready and Bridge Design. David was deeply involved with Novartis efforts to leverage information technology to improve both clinical study operations (Trials of the Future) and patient outcomes (Digital Medicines), and oversaw the development of all Mobile Medical Apps within Novartis that are regulated as medical devices. He continues to be interested in the harmonious integration of medical devices and information technology, including digital biomarkers. David is passionate about developing sophisticated technologies into human-centric products. Raúl Martín-Ruiz is currently Investment Director at Ysios Capital and chairman of the board of STAT Diagnostica. Ysios is a leading Spanish independent venture capital firm that provides private equity financing to early- and mid-stage human healthcare and biotechnology companies. Prior to joining Ysios in 2008, Raúl worked at Laboratorios Almirall where he was responsible for managing and developing the company’s business through licensees and distributors in America and Africa. Before that, he worked in Almirall’s corporate business development department, focusing on in- and out-licensing. At Almirall he interacted with numerous pharmaceutical and biotech companies on a global basis and coordinated and led evaluation and approval several licensing projects in different therapeutic areas, from the technical, commercial, contractual, financial and business perspectives. He has also authored several research publications and is an inventor of a number of pending patents. In 1997 he became consultant for Barcelona Design Center. María Ángeles Quesada is currently the co-founder and CEO of Equánima, a philosophical lab she started in 2009 to help all size of organizations and entrepreneurs seeking innovation. Luis Ruiz Ávila is one of the founding partners and current CEO of Spherium, a firm that provides operational, strategic and business development expertise to transform into economic value academic knowledge or related projects from established companies in the biomedical sector. His responsibility is the acquisition of projects and further business development. Luis started his career in the industry at Almirall in 1997 as project manager and business developer. In 2001 he left Almirall to participate in creating Advancell, one of the first Spanish biotechnology spin-offs, where he served as CEO from its conception until December 2008, when he left his position to create Janus. In 2002 he participated in the creation of ERA-Plantech (now ERA-Biotech), being interim CEO until 2004, when he became Chairman of its Board of Directors until 2007. In 2009 he served as CEO of the Madrid based company TCD-Pharma, Biotech Crossroads Group. He was a member of the board of Asebio between 2004 and 2008. He is the founder of CataloniaBio, the Catalan association of biotech companies, and member of its board. Luis regularly participates in working groups of local institutions, particularly Biocat. Luis holds a PhD in Molecular Genetics from the Spanish Research Council (CSIC), and, before joining industry, he spent the first 10 years of his career as a researcher and lecturer in different academic positions in various Universities and Research Centers in Spain and in the US (Roche, Mount Sinai NY). He has authored over 25 research papers in prestigious international journals (Nature, PNAS, J. Neurosci) and translated into Spanish several reference textbooks in molecular biology and genetics. Laura Sampietro-Colom is currently the Deputy Director for Innovation at the “Hospital Clinic” in Barcelona, a leading Teaching Hospital in Spain. Prior to this, Dr Sampietro-Colom was the General Director of Information Systems, Projects and Evaluation of the Catalan Health Institute, the leading provider of public health services in the Region of Catalonia (8 Hospitals and 238 Primary Care Centres) and the Director of the Strategic Planning Unit of Health Services within the Planning and Evaluation Directorate of the Ministry of Health of Catalonia. Laura has over 20 years of experience in evaluative research, specifically in HTA and was one of the founders of the Catalan Agency for Health Technology Assessment (nowadays AQuAS) with which she still collaborates as research associate. She was the Founding member of the International Society for Health Technology Assessment (HTAi), serving on the Board of Directors of HTAi since its foundation, including three years as Secretary of the Executive Committee, two years as Vice-President and two years as President. Responsible for the development of one of the research lines of the first international project conducted by the International Network of Agencies for Health Technology Assessment (INAHTA). She has been temporary adviser of the United Nations Agencies WHO and PAHO. Overall, Laura's work has focused on the evaluation of health care technologies, the identification, management and transference of information to improve the decision-making process, and on evidence-based planning healthcare services. Laura is a trained Medical Doctor specializing in Preventive Medicine and Public Health (University of Barcelona) and holds a PhD in Medicine and Surgery by the Autonomous University of Barcelona, and a Master of Science in Public Health by the Rolling School of Public Health (Emory University, Atlanta, USA)
Mercedes Serrano MD PhD works as a child neurologist and clinical researcher expert in metabolic and rare diseases at Sant Joan de Déu Hospital and the Centre for Biomedical Network Research on Rare Diseases (CIBERER). She is very active in exploring new approaches to use information and telecommunications technologies (ICT) to develop new forms of patient oriented research, enable parents to collaborate with researchers on rare diseases and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. She is the founder and principal researcher of www.rarecommons.org, a research Project at the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital in Barcelona focused on the biomedical study of rare diseases that affect children. The undertaking is organized around an online platform that allows for interaction among users, thanks to a dynamic format modeled on virtual social networks and building upon information, learning, and participation. She is also the responsible of the medical contents of www.guiametabolica.org, a reference website for patients suffering inherited metabolic disorders and their families. Mercedes graduated in Medicine at the Miguel Hernández University in Alicante. Later she performed a Master in Child Neurology at the University of Barcelona and a Master in Neurosciences and Biology of Behavior at the University Pablo de Olavide, Sevilla. She gained her PhD degree at the University of Barcelona through her research on dopamine neurotransmission disturbances in pediatric patients. In 2007 she joined CIBERER and Sant Joan de Déu Hospital. She has written dozens of articles indexed in PubMed regarding inherited metabolic disorders including the use of ICT to empower patients and families suffering this group of rare diseases.

Jon Tangen is the leader for the team leaders at KaosPilots. As Program Manager, he designs and develops the three-year program and curriculum of the school in order to secure the educational quality with in the four disciplines; Leadership, Process, Project and Business. He also works as a consultant for external clients developing leadership programs and training leaders. Previously, he served in the Norwegian army for ten years spending some time at the military academy but also serving abroad and working for the intelligence service. After leaving the army he attended the KaosPilots as a student and worked as a consultant before returning to the school.
Montserrat Vendrell has over 10 year experience in biomedical research both in Spanish institutions (CSIC) and international companies (Roche Institute of Molecular Biology). She has been involved in the creation and development of Barcelona Science Park (1997-2007; 2014-2015) as deputy general manager and later, general manager. She was CEO of Biocat for 8 years (2007-2015). She has also been the first director general of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (2015-2017). Montserrat chaired since its birth until 2015, the Council of European Bioregions. She is member of the Board of EADA Business School and RACC. Dr. Vendrell holds a PhD in Biology from University of Barcelona (1991), a master degree in Science Communication from Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona, 1997) and an Executive Degree in General Management (IESE Business School, Barcelona, PDG-1-2007). She is now General Partner at Alta Life Sciences, a new venture capital investment firm in the field of life sciences in Barcelona.
Rafael Vilasanjuan has been Director of ISGlobal’s Think Tank and Communication since March 2011. Deputy Director of the Centre for Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB) from 2006 to 2011, he worked for over 12 years with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), starting as Communication Director in 1995 and later as General Director of the Spanish section of MSF. In 1999, when the organisation was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, he was appointed General Secretary of MSF International, organization in which he worked until 2006. As General Secretary of MSF, he was a founder member of the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi), Mr Vilasanjuan still collaborates with the DNDi. Mr Vilasanjuan is a journalist with a degree in information sciences from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He has a weekly opinion column on international affairs in El Periódico and contributes weekly as a political affairs analyst on the morning news programme on the leading radio station in Spain (Cadena SER) and on the leading news programme on TV3, Catalonia’s autonomous television network.
